The dancer beats out different rhythms, wearing tap shoes to give a distinctive sound which adds to the percussion sound of the music. Tap is used extensivley in musical theatre.
In group tap dances, the steps are typically kept simple and easy to control. The group of dancers must work together to create the sound keeping their steps at the correct speed to match each other.
Tap dancing is a very different skill from ballet, but by teaching the two disciplines one ofter another, our children get to grips with the 2 distinctive styles from an early age.
