Dorking School of Dance's teachers were involved in a wonderful Christmas celebration held at the Dorking Halls 2 weeks ago. We performed alongside the Show Choir who performed a variety of popular and festive songs to bring everyone into the spirit of Christmas.
Following the Reigate Christmas Lights, our performers continued their dance numbers in the slightly warmer surrounding of the Dorking Halls, and featured a variety of dance supporting acts from ballet through to musical theatre numbers. In total, we had 90 pupils attending and they thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Piece 1 (Jazz Dance) to the music of 'Black Magic'
Piece 2 (Ballet) to the music of 'Walking in the Air'
Piece 3 (Jazz) to the music of 'Bills'
Piece 4 (Musical Theatre) to the musical numbers of Return to the Forbidden Planet
Our schools enjoy performing, but also realise the importance of having fun through learning technique. All these performance activities add to a pupil's experience and confidence, and so develop into mature performers. By dancing in various venues and even outdoors (as well as the important watching weeks which are themselves an avenue to perform), our pupils learn what life of a performer is all about - the waiting around, the anticipation before going on stage, the elation of finishing a performance and being applauded, and sharing their experiences with others. A dancer's life is difficult, but the life skills learnt is that nothing comes easy, but with hard work in class, they get rewarded and feel a sense of achievement.
Performances are a fabulous way to our older pupils to further their performance skills, and a very rewarding time for our younger ones also, as they learn so much from our older pupils.
Our schools adopt a very friendly approach, and ensure everyone is part of a large happy family.
